Skyteam member Aeromexico will open direct flights between Mexico City and Barcelona starting this summer. The route will commence on 15 June 2019 and will be operated three times a week, with Boeing 787-8 aircraft.
Flights from Mexico City will leave three times a week, on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at local time 18:20. They will arrive in Barcelona the following day, at local time 12:40, after an approximately 8 hour flight.
Return flights from Barcelona to Mexico City are scheduled on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, with departure from Barcelona’s El Prat Airport at local time 14:40. Flights will arrive in Mexico City at local time 19:55.
Besides announcing the direct flight to Barcelona, Aeromexico announced that they will increase the number of weekly flights to Madrid at 18 flights and to Paris Charles de Gaulle to 11 weekly flights.
Other european destinations for Aeromexico include London and Amsterdam.
Currently there is no other carrier operating directly the Mexico – Barcelona flight. However, Emirates is trying to open the route under a Dubai – Barcelona – Mexico City schedule, under a fifth article agreement. Aeromexico strongly opposed, stating that Emirates it’s a subsidized airline and it should not be fair to compete against the Gulf carrier.
