Air Tanzania Airbus A220-300
Air Tanzania has become last week the first African carrier to receive an Airbus A220-300 airplane. The deal was signed back in 2016 with Bombardier and Air Tanzania is due to receive under the deal a second Airbus A220-300.
The carrier will operate the A220-300 on routes from Dar es Salaam on domestic and regional routes. Air Tanzania might also open new routes operated with the A220 to India and the Middle East.
Air Tanzania’s Airbus A220-300 will have the registration 5H-TCH. The Wings of Kilimanjaro painted on the plane despite reports that it is the name of the aircraft, in reality, it’s the motto of Air Tanzania and its painted on all planes in the carriers fleet.
Formerly, the A220 was known as Bombardier C Series, that’s why Air Tanzania signed in 2016 for two Bombardier CS300 jetliners.
Here you can see the airplane in action at Montreal, with a couple of close-ups thanks to Mark Brandon’s Youtube channel:
Air Tanzania has a small fleet of six other aircraft, with one Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, one Canadair CRJ100 and four Bombardier 8 turboprop aircraft.
Besides being the first African carrier to operate the A220, Air Tanzania is just the fifth carrier to operate the type. Previously, the A220 was delivered to Swiss, Air Baltic, Korean Air and Delta Airlines.
