Animawings Receives Romania’s First Airbus A220

Animawings has taken delivery of its first Airbus A220-300, marking the arrival of the first aircraft of this type in Romania. This addition is part of the airline’s fleet expansion strategy, which involves integrating six A220 aircraft by 2026.

The aircraft, registered YR-CHR, landed in Bucharest on December 14, 2024, after departing from the Airbus factory in Mirabel, Canada, and making a refueling stop in Keflavik, Iceland.

Fleet Expansion Plans

The Airbus A220-300 is the first of six aircraft contracted by Animawings to be delivered in phases until 2026. The airline is also expecting two Airbus A320 aircraft in early 2025, which will complement the A220 in serving domestic and international routes.

Environmental and Operational Advantages of the A220

The Airbus A220 brings significant environmental and operational benefits. Compared to older-generation aircraft, it:

  • Consumes 25% less fuel.
  • Produces 25% fewer CO2 emissions.
  • Operates with 50% less noise, making it quieter for both passengers and communities near airports.

Additionally, the A220 is compatible with up to 50% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), aligning with the aviation industry’s push for greener operations.

Route Network and Operational Focus

The Airbus A220 will operate on a mix of domestic and international routes, including destinations such as:

  • Domestic: Cluj, Iași, Oradea, and other major Romanian cities.
  • International: Paris, Stockholm, Larnaca, Dubai, Marrakesh, Nice, and Ibiza.

The A220 will also serve charter flights to popular holiday destinations in Greece, Turkey, and Spain, catering to the summer 2025 travel demand.

The first official flight of the new aircraft is scheduled for December 28, 2024, on the Bucharest–Dubai route.

Innovative Cabin Features

The Animawings Airbus A220 is equipped with 137 seats, including:

  • 12 Business Class seats in a 2-2 layout, offering generous legroom and enhanced privacy.
  • 125 Economy Class seats in a 2-3 configuration, optimized for passenger comfort.

Key cabin features:

  • Wider seats compared to other single-aisle aircraft.
  • Larger windows for improved natural lighting.
  • USB ports for device charging at every seat.

Business Class passengers benefit from:

  • Priority boarding and deboarding.
  • Catering included, with an array of high-quality meals and beverages.
  • Dedicated cabin crew providing personalized service.
