Romanian based low-cost carrier Blue Air is said to be considering entering two new markets in Egypt and Georgia, connecting both Tbilisi and Cairo with Bucharest.
Flights from Bucharest to Tbilisi where already announced as seasonal flights, operated in collaboration with a travel agency as packages.
However, flights to Cairo (Egypt) from Bucharest where rumored to be launched by state-owned carrier TAROM. The state-owned legacy carrier of Romania previously flown this route up until the terrorist attacks from Sharm el Sheik.
Blue Air already has an extensive flight network from Bucharest and is also selling connecting flight. Although the demand from Romania to Cairo and Tbilisi would not be that high, the route could make sense if the low-cost carrier manages somehow to get enough connecting passengers.
Currently, transfer experience at Bucharest’s Henri Coanda Airport it’s rather odd since there is a small transfer desk, the vast majority of passengers going usually onward domestic routes.
12 new Boeing 737 MAX 8 are waiting routes from Blue Air
It is no surprise that Blue Air is considering flights that usually are not in Romanian low-cost offer. The Romanian carrier took delivery of lots of aircrafts in the previous years and also signed a deal for the delivery of another 12 Boeing 737 MAX 8, starting from 2019, while also taking over 8 of Pegasus Airlines previous fleet of Boeing 737-800 NG planes.
