British Airways to squeeze in one more seat per row in Boeing 777’s flying out of London Gatwick

British Airways announced a new cabin configuration for the carrier’s Boeing 777 planes based in London Gatwick that are operating long-haul flights. The big change is the introduction of another seat per every row in the economy cabin and updating the in flight entertainment system.

Cabin configuration would go on the British carrier’s fleet from a 3-3-3 configuration to a 3-4-3 configuration, thus reducing the space allocated per each seat.
The carrier pushes the cabin changes due to increased demand for economy class.

The first flights that will see the change are the ones from Gatwick to destinations in Mexico, Dominican Republic and Jamaica.

Bigger screens for the IFE system

On a more positive note, British Airways it’s updating also its in-flight entertainment system, opting for a Panasonic solution with the touchscreen.
I like that they are also increasing the size of the screens from 6 inches to 10 inches in economy and 12 inches in economy plus cabin. There is also a very good feature that they equipped the IFE system with USB ports so that you can charge your phone or other personal devices during the flight.

Eventually, starting autumn 2019 also the London Heathrow Boeing 777’s based planes will update to the new cabin.
