Hainan Airlines to launch Los Angeles – Xi’an non-stop flights

Hainan Airlines announced a new route from Los Angeles to Xi’an (China) that will start December 31, 2018. The new service will be the only one between the United States and Xi’an.

The new Xi’an – Los Angeles flight will be operated two times a week, departing Xi’an on Monday and Thursday night. Flight numbers allocated for this flight are HU493 from the departure from Xi’an and HU494 for the departure from Los Angeles.
The flight time between the two cities is about 12-13 hours, a bit more on the westbound leg.

UPDATE: Between January 10 and February 28, 2019 instead of two weekly flights, Hainan Airlines will operate only one.

The flights are operated with Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft with a two-class configuration: 36 seats in business class in a 2-2-2 configuration and 177 seats in economy class in a 3-3-3 seating configuration. However, starting March 31, 2019 the service will be upgraded to bigger capacity Boeing 787-9 during the summer season.

It is not the first flight of Hainan Airlines from Xi’an, the Asian carrier having flights from the city to Tokyo, Rome, Sydney and Melbourne. Despite not being a hub like Beijing or  Haikou, Hainan Airlines has a strong focus on developing a network in Xi’an, offering also a number of domestic flights.

Xi’an is a city located in northwest China with a population of more than 8.7 million.
