Airbus A330 Arrival: Water Salute at the Airport
Starting in June 2024, HiSky, a Romanian airline, will resume direct flights from Bucharest to New York, marking the end of a nearly 15-years hiatus in direct connections between the two airports.
Tickets for the Bucharest – New York route are now available, with the inaugural flight set for Friday, June 7th, 2024.
Regular flights between Henri Coandă Airport in Bucharest and John F. Kennedy Airport in New York will operate four times a week, departing Bucharest on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
The flights are scheduled to depart Bucharest at 08:00 local time, arriving in New York at 11:25 local time, with a total flight time of just over 10 hours.
Return flights will depart JFK at 13:25 local time and land in Bucharest Otopeni the next day at 06:15 local time.
Two service classes are available, with ticket prices starting at just 349 EUR (approx. 383 USD) for economy and 1899 EUR (2089 USD) for the business class service.
Onboard catering, including a hot meal and a snack, is included in the ticket price for every passenger.
The addition of the Bucharest – New York service from HiSky follows the airline’s recent authorization from the U.S. Department of Transportation to operate regular flights to the U.S.
HiSky is the sole Romanian airline with a Foreign Air Carrier Permit and an aircraft capable of direct transatlantic flights.
The Bucharest Otopeni – New York JFK flights will be operated using an Airbus A330-200, HiSky’s first wide-body aircraft registered in Romania. The aircraft, equipped with an entertainment system, allows for uninterrupted service over the transatlantic distance.
This Airbus A330-200 is currently the sole widebody aircraft in the fleet of HiSky.
“We are extremely proud to officially reopen this strategic route after more than two decades. Starting June, New York will once again be listed on Otopeni Airport’s Departures-Arrivals board. This is a significant milestone for HiSky and even more so for Romania and all passengers wishing to travel across the ocean without stopovers or time wasted at other airports. The USA is now a viable travel option for the first time since air travel became accessible to everyone. We are delighted to be the ones paving this way. Three years ago, when we began operations, we aimed to be the primary choice for Romanian passengers. We’ve proven our worth through thousands of flights across Europe, and now we’re excited to give them this gift right before the holidays.”, said Iulian Scorpan, CEO of HiSky.
Henri Coandă Airport in Bucharest has served as HiSky’s main operational base since its inauguration a year and a half ago. The airline operates eight regular international routes from Bucharest to various destinations, along with two domestic routes to Cluj Napoca and Timișoara. Additionally, HiSky operates regular and charter flights from several other airports in Romania, ranking fourth among airlines in the country regarding passenger numbers.
