SAS Scandinavian Airlines presents its new livery

SAS Scandinavian Airlines today revealed it’s new livery after a 21-year painting scheme on the planes that remained the same and become a classic in Northern Europe airports.

The new SAS Scandinavian livery reflects it’s Scandinavian feeling and will be featured first on the new Airbus A350 and A320neo that will be introduced in the airlines fleet, in airlines process on an extensive fleet renewal.

The major changes compared to the previous design include extending the blue color of the tail to the belly of the plane. There is also a fresher grey shade and the SAS logo has been placed on the front of the plane, in a silver-grey tone that the airline suggests it is big, proud and confident.
Previous red engines have been turned in the new painting scheme into silver-grey while maintaining the word “Scandinavian”.

“The new livery design is a symbol of our future, a more sustainable and competitive future for SAS, but one that also embraces our heritage. Travelers from Scandinavia will recognize their home, while global travelers will encounter the renowned feeling of the Nordics,” says Rickard Gustafson, President, and CEO at SAS.

Another interesting fact in the new SAS livery is that the airline had the objective to reduce the overall weight of the planes, thus become more fuel-efficient, so they opted for an advanced coating material, provided by Akzo Nobel.

This special coating material allows fewer layers of colors and it contains fewer toxins than the traditional painting. There is also an increase in durability, so the airplanes will have a good painting for longer periods.

The new livery will be introduced alongside the normal maintenance process, which means that the aircraft that the existing fleet will get the new livery on an extended timeline.
