Romanian state-owned airline TAROM will launch starting March 25th two new domestic flights from Timișoara to Iași and Cluj Napoca. The routes are already available to book through the companies website with prices starting at 40 EUR/one way.
Both flights, Timisoara – Iasi and Timisoara – Cluj-Napoca will be operated with ATR 42-500 airplanes, a turboprop plane with a seating capacity of 48 passengers.
The Timisoara – Iasi flight will be operated with a frequency of 4 weekly flights – Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. The flight to Cluj Napoca from Timisoara will be operated with a frequency of 3 weekly flights on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Previously, the route was operated until February 2018 in a triangular way by the low-cost airline Blue Air. However, the low-cost carrier decided to cancel at the route due to claimed issues with Timisoara Airport. Also, voices in the industry say that the load factor for the Blue Air flights were a modest 60% and they operated with 130 seats capacity Boeing 737-500’s.
However, operating with a smaller seating capacity plane for TAROM might be the winning card for high load factors and good yield.
The Timișoara – Iași and Timișoara – Cluj flights operated by TAROM are the only domestic flights not operating or terminating in Bucharest for the state-owned carrier.
