Virgin Atlantic will start flights from London to Tel Aviv, Israel in September 2019

Virgin Atlantic is in talks to start from September 2019 flights to Tel Aviv, Israel. The exact details of this new flight from London to Tel Aviv will be discussed and is expected to be released in the next weeks by Virgin Atlantic.

Flight time between London and Tel Aviv is about 5 hours, making this flight a mid-haul flight and one of the shortest operated by Virgin Atlantic.

Although the flights could potentially start in September 2019, Sir Richard Branson’s former airline will offer a special flight with the occasion of the Eurovision, which will be held in Israel in May 2019.

In June 2018, Israeli Shai Weiss was appointed CEO of Virgin Atlantic.

Virgin Atlantic has some serious competition on the London – Tel Aviv route from the airports in London’s catchment area, as both legacy carriers, British Airways and Israelian El Al offer a couple of daily flights. To these airlines it is to be added the budget airline competition which is represented on the route by Easyjet and Wizz Air.

Virgin Atlantic has an active fleet of 46 aircraft, all of them being double aisled aircraft that could provide an extra comfort flying on them, in competition with regular Airbus A320 offered by the budget airlines competition. British Airlines flies to Tel Aviv with Boeing 777, while El Al offers usually the 787-9 new Dreamliner aircraft on the route.
