Wizz Air expands in Craiova: new flights to Bari and Memmingen and resumed flights to Madrid and Dortmund
Wizz Air continues to invest in the Romanian market, marking a new development milestone for Craiova International Airport. In the summer of 2025, the airline will introduce two new routes and increase flight frequencies for five existing destinations, thanks to the relocation of a second aircraft to its Craiova base.
New destinations and relaunched routes from Craiova
Starting June 2025, passengers from Craiova will have access to two new routes:
- Craiova – Memmingen, with flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, starting June 1, 2025.
- Craiova – Bari, with flights on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, available from June 2, 2025.
Additionally, two popular routes will be relaunched:
- Craiova – Madrid, with flights on Thursdays and Sundays, starting June 1, 2025.
- Craiova – Dortmund, operated on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, from June 2, 2025.
Increased Frequencies on Five Routes
Passengers will benefit from more travel options due to increased frequencies on the following routes:
- London Luton: from 7 to 9 weekly flights.
- Brussels Charleroi: from 2 to 4 weekly flights.
- Birmingham: from 2 to 3 weekly flights.
- Bologna: from 3 to 4 weekly flights.
- Rome Fiumicino: from 3 to 4 weekly flights.
Expanding the Craiova Base and Regional Prospects
The relocation of a modern Airbus A320neo aircraft will allow for 145,000 additional seats during the summer, representing a 60% increase compared to the summer of 2024. This move reaffirms Wizz Air’s commitment to Craiova, the only airport in Romania where the airline holds exclusive operational rights.
Sorin Manda, Director of Craiova International Airport, highlighted that this expansion comes at an opportune time, marked by infrastructure upgrades and regional economic prospects. “The completion of the Craiova-Pitești Expressway and Romania’s accession to the Schengen Area will enhance the airport’s appeal, including for passengers from northern Bulgaria,” he noted.
Wizz Air: A Success Story in Romania
Since its debut in Romania in 2006, Wizz Air has become a leader in low-cost flights, connecting passengers to 74 destinations in 24 countries. With six operational bases and a modern fleet, the company supports over 9,200 jobs in related industries.
In line with its ambitious “WIZZ 500” strategy, Wizz Air aims to improve Romania’s international connectivity while maintaining its commitment to sustainability by operating one of the youngest and most fuel-efficient fleets in the industry.
Wizz Air’s expansion in Craiova is a significant opportunity for travelers, offering more travel options at affordable prices.
